As reported in The Australian on May 7, 2018 (“Container bio levy to speed airport passage”), the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) looks to be introducing a $340 million levy on all imported containers – 20′ and 40′- from 1 July 2019.
As stated by Travis Brooks-Garrett – FTA/APSA, the article suggests that the fee is one of the key recommendations of an independent report chaired by Wendy Craik. The report recommended:
“Funding for the national biosecurity system should be increased by implementing a per container levy on incoming shipping containers of $10 per twenty-foot equivalent unit and a levy of $5 on incoming air containers, effective from 1 July 2019″.
Henning Harders will continue to monitor the progress of this proposed fee and endeavour to update our customers with the new fee structures as and when they are implemented. Please contact your Key Account Manager should you have any questions.
